“Why I Volunteer with CIJF”
In the video above, Mariama Fofana, our newest team member, shares her story about emigrating from her home in Côte d'Ivoire to the U.S. after undergoing a fraught asylum-seeking process. Click here to listen to more of her story and how she champions this advocacy within CIJF.
Mariama is one of two team members who have been granted asylum through independent efforts. Their lived experiences and storytelling matter a great deal to us as we continue to shape our work in thoughtfulness and equity.
Update on our Work in 2022
Paperwork for asylum cases that CIJF is funding
Have you wondered what we’ve been up to recently? Here is a brief look into the work we have funded during the first 4 months of this year:
Nine asylum cases, currently in progress
Three successful bond hearings that will enable immigrants to continue their cases from outside of detention
Two trials, both awaiting a decision
Over $1,000 in expert witness and court filing fees for two immigrants
Many thanks to our donors for making this possible!
Save The Date!
We are in the early stages of planning our first CIJF donor event! We’ll share more details in the coming weeks, but mark your calendars for Saturday, August 27th, 4:00 - 6:00 pm MST. We’re so excited to meet you in person, share our stories, and celebrate our partnership with you.
With hope and gratitude,
Greg Mortimer on behalf of the Colorado Immigrant Justice Fund team
