SelectionCriteria

We want to help all of our immigrant friends, but unfortunately it’s not possible. How do we select whom we can fund? We work with legal experts and consider a list of criteria, such as:

1. Viability based on legal assessment 

2. Prep time before hearing (need at least a month for merits hearing)

3. Hardship / Merits (nexus of asylum) 

   1. Credible fear 

   2. Danger of physical harm if the detainee is deported

   3. Family separation

   4. One who is caring for dependents in the US / financial hardship for family

   5. Instability & level of danger of the country of origin

   6. Membership in a persecuted group (religion, political activism, LGBTQ, etc)

4. Anticipated cost for legal representation
