Two weeks ago, we told you about Defending Immigrants; Defrosting ICE - our plan to respond to the escalating attacks on the immigrant community. We were in need of $50,000 to fund our plan for 6 months.
We also shared that two generous partners had provided $20,000 for a matching gift.
As of today, we have received just under $22,000 in donations, which fully unlocks the $20,000 matching gift!
We are now within $8,000 of funding our plan for the first 6 months.
Update on our work
Your generosity has enabled us to do the following:
Fund attorney visits: We funded our first two weekly attorney visits to the Aurora Detention Center to provide consultations for newly detained immigrants.
Fund an asylum clinic for the first time in 2025: CIJF paid for attorneys, a translator and lunch, enabling 42 recently arrived immigrants to complete complicated I-589 asylum applications.
Secure funding for full asylum cases: Based on our consultations with recently arrived immigrants, we are identifying strong cases for which we can fund attorney fees.
