Guest speaker for our celebration & fundraiser!

In August 2023, NPR published this story about the wide-spread abuse of immigrants in US detention centers. 

Most detention centers are operated by private prisons who prioritize profit over humane conditions for detained immigrants. The findings of the NPR article aligned with what CIJF hears from detained immigrants around the country. 

Laura Hernández is the executive director of Freedom for Immigrants - a national organization that seeks to abolish detention centers. She is a strong leader working hard on behalf of detained immigrants. 

Last spring, Laura asked CIJF to fund the case for a friend who is detained in Aurora, CO. CIJF agreed to do so, and the case is currently being litigated.
