Note:
Framing this is very important. The CILDF team recommends not bringing up legal representation in the first or even second visit as it sets unhealthy expectations. It is helpful for volunteers to be able to complete this form without ever mentioning the possibility of representation with the detainee. Talking point if needed: “I am aware of organizations that provide some funding - I can explore that for you, if you like”.
